Volunteer Efforts
Health Care Service Corporation's (HCSC) community involvement is rooted in one of our core values: corporate citizenship. We are committed to the well-being of the communities in which we do business through focused health and wellness efforts. The success of our robust employee volunteer program depends on the many employees who offer their time and talents to support an array of worthwhile causes. Our employees have volunteered more than 710,000 hours since the program began in 2008. These efforts helped nonprofits and community partners positively influence many of the social determinants of health that often drive health disparities, which increase direct medical costs. Involvement in activities that address hunger, safety, employment and support systems, in addition to building playgrounds and mentoring kids, positively affects personal well-being and helps build healthy communities. We want to continue this support and double our impact over the next three years by encouraging our employees to volunteer 1 million hours of service by 2021.

Matching Dollars for Community Partners
At the heart of our Blue Corps SM volunteer efforts is our Matching Dollars program. For every volunteer hour that an HCSC employee spends volunteering with a Community Partner, HCSC contributes $20 per hour to the designated organization, up to a total annual contribution of $2,000. In 2018 we gave $569,681 to 490 Community Partner organizations. These relationships are a vital element in achieving our purpose: to do everything in our power to stand with our members in sickness and in health. As such, HCSC supports a diverse representation of community organizations.
Volunteer of the Year Award
Each year, we recognize volunteers from each of our states for meaningful contributions to their communities. Thank you and congratulations to our 2018 Blue Corps Volunteer of the Year award recipients and to all of our employee volunteers for their commitment to improving our communities.
